A lot of people know that God is existing. However, only a few desires to know Him more in their lives.
I admit I was once those people who knows God but just like any other 'carnal man' says "I know Him, He knows me, He is God and that's it". In short, I was a Christian who is a perfect example of a carnal one.
Most people acknowledge God as Creator & Lord, a forgiving, full of mercy & compassionate God, but sadly, not the Lord of their life. People are focusing on so many things that are in this world. Things that are being offered to them by this world such as money, fame, fortune, career etc. These things are making people forget that the our purpose in this life should not be in the things that are in this world but our eyes should always be in Jesus. Like what Paul said in Hebrew 12:2, we should be 'Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith'.
We should not just ignore God and be the very best that we can in this world. Everything came from Him. (As it is being said in James 1:17 - Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows) So He has the choice to take back all the things that we enjoy in this world which hinders us to seek Him first in our lives. Matthew 6:33, But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.
